Philly food is so much more than cheesesteaks. Let us show you.

October Opens with 10th Annual Made on American Street

moasFor four hours on Sunday, October 2, American Street will once again be shut down as the Philadelphia Homebrew Club—Philly’s largest collective of homebrewers—celebrates barbecue, beer, and bands for the 10th year.  Throughout the event (from 2-6pm), attendees will be able to sample the offerings of top barbecue teams as well as enjoy a wide variety of homebrewed beer from club members.

In addition to the homebrew, there will be select local craft beers available.  The club is also partnering with their neighbors at New Liberty Distillery, who will offer a one-day-only Whiskey Garden to sample their spirits or have a cocktail.

This year, the price of the tickets has actually dropped. Early admission tickets are just $15 (with proceeds benefitting local charities) and include a tasting glass for sampling the 200+ gallons of homebrew (as well as other homemade non-alcoholic beverages), plus two tickets for sampling barbecue and sides.  Additional tickets may be purchased at $2/portion.  Attendees will also be able to check out local vendors, a full concert from Splintered Sunlight, and the return of the kids’ bouncy castle.  And to make it a true family affair, kids under 12 will be admitted free.

Tickets for the event can be found here.  Get them early, as the price will jump to $25 at the door.

If you would like to be part of the barbecue competition, you can sign up here.  Each team will consist of four people, who can choose to grill ribs, chicken, or both, and must also produce a side.  The entry fee for the competition is $200, which will include the team’s choice of meat. Prizes will be awarded in each category (ribs and chicken will each get $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, and $300 for third; sides will receive $300 for first, $200 for second, and $100 for third), as well as a People’s Choice.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, join the competition.  If, however, you’re like me and all you’ve got is what it takes to put away ribs and beer for four hours, grab your ticket in advance and we’ll see you there.
