Chef/owner Stephanie Reitano shows off her margherita pizze

Old City’s Capofitto is kicking off the summer with a new weekly Pizzata—a slang Italian term for end-of-school-year pizza party—which they will be celebrating in the form of a late night happy hour on Mondays and Tuesdays.  The happy hour will consist of two of chef-owner Stephanie Reitano’s artisan pizzas for $10 each from 8-10pm.  Capofitto is also ringing in the season with a selection of new dishes.

For the Pizzata, Capofitto will be offering Reitano’s Marinara Pizze (San Marzano tomatoes, oregano, garlic, Sicilian extra virgin olive oil) and her Margherita Pizze (San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte mozzarella, Sicilian extra virgin olive oil, pecorino Romano, and basil).  The promotion will last through the end of the summer.

As for the new dishes they’ll be featuring, some of the standouts include a caprese salad for two (heirloom tomatoes, burrata, olive oil poached rainbow cherry tomatoes, Sicilian olive oil, micro greens), a local zucchini salad (zucchini noodles, fiore sardo cheese, pistachios, lemon vinaigrette), panelle fritte (chickpea fritters, marinated tomatoes, sugar peas, herbs), a new pizza (mozzarella di Bufala, provola, speck, basil, zucchini pesto), and other dishes as well.

We were lucky enough to try out some of Capofitto’s new offerings, and they definitely scream summertime—especially the caprese, which has always been a weakness of ours.  The simplicity, freshness, and satisfaction of gooey burrata and ripe heirloom tomatoes always reminds us of studying abroad in Italy, and this version has immediately jumped to the top of our list.  The fritters, as well, stood out—for something that is fried, it was surprisingly light and delicate, perfect for the warm months to come.

With a wide selection of pizza and other Italian specialties—not to mention their world-famous gelato—Capofitto should be on everyone’s radar this summer.  They’re open most of the day (10am-10:30pm Sun-Thurs and 10am-11:30pm Fri & Sat), so there’s no excuse to miss out.  Whether it’s for pizza, pasta, cocktails, or gelato, you can’t go wrong.  Philly’s got a lot of pizza places, but this is one of the best.
