Philly food is so much more than cheesesteaks. Let us show you.

Burger Brawl Goes Down Sunday

bbThe Philadelphia Burger Brawl, a competition in which nearly 40 bars and restaurants compete to see who can make the best burger in Philly, is set for Sunday, June 26 at XFINITY Live.  The event will be held from 4:00 – 7:00pm, with a VIP hour beginning at 3:00pm.  Now in its sixth year, the event will also be featuring a Taco Takedown competition from 12 bars and restaurants as well as a Cutthroat Cocktail Competition featuring 20 bars.

General admission tickets begin at $50 and include a vote for best burger and a complimentary beverage.  VIP tickets include the same, along with an hour of early access, access to a VIP lounge, and opportunities to meet the celebrity judges for $125.  Children 10 and under are admitted free, and guests 11-20 can purchase a ticket for $35.  As we pointed out last year, the VIP admission is definitely worth the price, especially if it’s as sweltering hot as it was.

The Memphis Mauler from Fat Jack’s BBQ: patty, pulled pork, slaw, onions, pickle.

There are some very recognizable establishments competing for the burger title, including past winners like Blue Duck Sandwich Co. and Village Whiskey. Also appearing will be local favorites Spot Burger, P’unk Burger, Twisted Tail, La Peg, and A. Bar.  The Taco Takedown will also have some heavy hitters like Buena Onda, Heffe Tacos, Loco Pez, Lolita, Revolution Taco, and Sancho Pistola’s.  Full lists of participants are available at

Tickets are also available on the website, and a portion of the proceeds from the event will go to Compete 360, an organization founded by former Phillie Garry Maddox (who will be one of the celebrity judges), which supports the education and development for urban youth.  Parking at the event will be free, so you really have no excuse not to go—you get more burgers than you can reasonably eat (trust us), a free drink, and you’ll help with a charity organization.  What more can you possibly want?  Tacos? You’ll get those too!
