Chefs Help Support Art for Low Income Youth

artandfoodOn Thursday, July 23, the event space at Vie will be taken over by Art & Food, an event that pairs art and food—two things many of us already know go hand-in-hand—to help benefit Art Sphere Inc.  Art & Food will combine local artists, food samples from local chefs, beer and wine, and silent auctions and raffles.  All of the proceeds will be donated to Art Sphere, which is an after school program in Fishtown that provides free art classes to low income youth. Each ticket provides a kit filled with art supplies to the program (and gets you all the food you care to eat, an open bar, and a piece of art to take home).

Tickets for Art & Food are $35 in advance and $40—both a small price to pay to help a great local project like Art Sphere and to get food from excellent local chefs.  And these chefs are no slouches, either.  The folks from Poi Dog will be donating their time and talents, along with Alex Boonphaya of Circles Thai, Adam Diltz of Johnny Brenda’s, Adan Trinidad of Jose and Sancho Pistola’s, Nick Farina of Verdad, Jessica Gasparo of The Farm & Fisherman, Peter Scarola of R2L, the “Queen of Sushi” Madame Saito, and others.  With this lineup, the food alone will be worth the ticket price.

The chefs also have something on the line other than just making good food and plating it artistically—the American Culinary Federation will be presenting their honored “Trend Forward” award to one of the donating chefs.  Judges for this award will be announced soon.  As attendees, however, you will be able to vote for Most Inventive Taste and Most Creative Plating.

Vie is a great space for an event like this, and are even donating their facility for the event.  Tickets can be purchased here, and remember that 100% of the proceeds will go to benefiting low-income urban youth through Art Sphere.  Be sure to check back for details on the judging panel and any more information that may come out.

If you can’t make the event but would still like to help out, please check out Art & Food’s GoFundMe page and make a donation.  You can also like them on Facebook or follow @chefmcampbell1 for updates on the event as they are available.  We hope to see you there!
